The Sindh government has taken a big step to support industry workers by raising the minimum wage to Rs. 37,000 per month across the province. This new minimum wage, which got the green light from the Sindh Chief Minister, will start from July 1, 2024. The updated wage rate applies to all industrial and commercial establishments, aiming to make life a little easier for workers struggling with rising living costs.
In the 2024-25 annual budget, the government announced the increase, and now it’s official. According to the new rules, female workers will get paid the same as male workers, ensuring equal pay for equal work. Also, any existing wages above the previous minimum rate won’t reduced, so no worker will face a cut.
The notification has made it clear that all businesses need to follow the new wage rule without any delay. The Sindh government has also decided to roll out a campaign to register workers, including those working in factories and even domestic staff. This move aims to help workers access their rights and benefits more easily.
During a meeting headed by Chief Secretary Sindh, Syed Asif Haider Shah, decided that the Labor Department, with the help of Deputy Commissioners, will start this registration drive. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness about workers’ rights and the facilities available to them.
With these initiatives, the Sindh government is showing its commitment to improving the lives of workers, promising to take all steps necessary to ensure their well-being and protect their rights. This wage increase is just one of many measures to make life a bit fairer for the hardworking people in Sindh.
