In a first-ever event for Pakistan, a grounded Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing 737 is making its way from Karachi to the Civil Aviation Institute in Hyderabad. This isn’t your typical flight; it’s a special road journey! Usually, it takes around 2.5 hours to cover the 150 kilometers to Hyderabad, but this trip is going to take a lot longer.
A special truck and trolley are being used to move the plane’s body, while its wings and tail are going separately. Malik Humayun Khalid, who runs a private transport company, explained that they’re using a massive 74-wheeler trawler for this job. Just picture it: the plane is 110 feet long and weighs about 40 tons!
Munir Alam, the Deputy Director of Logistics at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), shared that the plane will be parked at the Civil Aviation Institute in Hyderabad. It will be used for training students who are learning about aviation. A team of experts from the CAA is also with the transport company to make sure everything goes smoothly.
The Motorway Police have assured everyone that the motorway won’t be blocked during this transfer. The big truck carrying the plane’s body will stick to one side of the road, escorted by CAA staff and security. They confirmed that everything is happening according to the required protocols.
