In response to rising smog levels, authorities in four districts have taken strict measures, ordering all markets to close by 8 PM. The decision comes from district officials who issued a notification to limit outdoor activities, aiming to reduce harmful impacts on health. With a focus on keeping the air clear, each tehsil has been instructed to form a task force, to ensure that market closures are enforced.
As per these new guidelines, hotels and restaurants must stop outdoor dining entirely, leaving only indoor dining as an option. Indoor wedding halls can operate under strict SOPs, but outdoor weddings, especially on farmhouses, are strictly off-limits. Big malls and stores are also required to shut down by 8 PM, while outdoor fitness clubs and snooker clubs will stay completely closed. However, indoor fitness centers and gyms can keep operating with SOP compliance.
While these restrictions cover most areas, there are certain essential services that remain exempt. Pharmacies, medical stores, hospitals, labs, and vaccination centers will continue to serve the public without restrictions. Basic needs shops like bakeries, grocery stores, milk and dairy outlets, and vegetable and fruit vendors are also free from these limitations. Services like e-commerce, postal, and courier services will continue as usual, along with utilities such as electricity, natural gas, internet, and telecom networks.
These measures, effective from November 11 to November 17, are a strong step from the district administration to protect public health. Lahore’s deputy commissioner has emphasized that anyone caught violating these orders could face legal action under Section 188.
