List of Banned VPN’s in Pakistan by PTA: November 2024 Update!

In a recent move to tighten internet security, authorities in Pakistan have started blocking unregistered and illegal VPN services across the country. This new development comes amid efforts to curb unauthorized internet access and limit illegal online content. Although the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has yet to provide full details, many users are reporting difficulties accessing popular VPN services.

Several well-known VPNs, including Tesla Proxy Pro, Super VPN, Okla Speed Test, and NordVPN, are no longer accessible in Pakistan. Users attempting to connect to these services are seeing error messages or facing failed connections. However, not all VPNs are impacted; some, like Tor VPN, Proton VPN, Cloudflare Warp, Panda VPN, and Hotspot Shield, remain operational, providing users with limited access options.

PTA stated that over 1,400 companies have registered VPNs so far, with plans to streamline the whitelisting process further. The initiative to block unregistered VPNs is part of a larger effort by the government to regulate online activities, enforcing local internet laws and ensuring compliance.

The timing of this crackdown coincides with restrictions placed on access to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) following allegations of election-related fraud. As users seek ways to bypass these blocks, VPN demand has surged by a reported 131% since the restrictions were imposed, highlighting the ongoing reliance on VPNs for unrestricted internet access in Pakistan.
