The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a groundbreaking initiative to simplify the renewal process for expired smart National Identity Cards (NICs) and the re-issuance of lost NICs in Karachi. The introduction of self-service kiosks aims to provide an efficient and hassle-free solution for citizens, eliminating the need for long queues and extended wait times at NADRA centers.
What Are Self-Service Kiosks?
The newly installed self-service kiosks will allow citizens to complete their NIC renewal and replacement applications independently. Users will be able to perform biometric verification, capture photographs, and submit necessary documents for the smart computerized NIC applications without requiring assistance from an operator.
This automated system aims to streamline the entire process, ensuring that individuals can apply for their NICs efficiently and with ease. The self-service kiosks are designed to enhance convenience for Karachi’s residents by enabling them to complete the application process at their own pace.
Where Will These Kiosks Be Installed?
The self-service kiosks will initially be set up at NADRA’s mega centers in Karachi. However, NADRA has future plans to expand the service to key locations such as airports, railway stations, shopping malls, and educational institutions. This will ensure that the kiosks are accessible to a larger number of people across the city, making the process even more convenient.
How Long Will It Take to Receive the NIC?
Once citizens have completed their applications via the self-service kiosks, they can expect to receive their new NICs, B-Forms, or other documents at their provided addresses within just 15 days. This quick processing time ensures that Karachi’s residents can get their required documents without unnecessary delays.
Technological Innovations at IDEAS 2024
NADRA’s Assistant Director, Ammar Haider, recently showcased these self-service kiosks at the IDEAS 2024 exhibition in Karachi. The exhibition also featured other advanced biometric innovations, such as locally assembled all-in-one handheld biometric tablets, mobile enrollment kits, self-enrollment kiosks, and contactless iris cameras. These cutting-edge technologies highlight NADRA’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and security of the identity verification process.
Trial Runs and Future Expansion
Before the full-scale installation of the self-service kiosks at NADRA mega centers, the authority plans to conduct trial runs to ensure the system’s reliability. Once successful trials are completed, the kiosks will be rolled out to additional locations throughout Karachi, further improving access to essential services for citizens.
NADRA’s self-service kiosk initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to modernize the citizen services process, ensuring greater convenience, reduced waiting times, and enhanced customer experience for the people of Karachi.
Stay tuned for updates on the full installation and availability of these kiosks across the city.
