A burst pipeline near University Road, close to Karachi University, caused chaos as thousands of gallons of water went to waste, leaving the area submerged and traffic severely affected. The situation unfolded earlier today, creating major inconvenience for commuters and raising concerns about the city’s aging water infrastructure.
According to a spokesperson from the Water Corporation, the incident was caused by damage to a massive 84-inch diameter main pipeline. The spokesperson assured that as soon as the issue was reported, the Water Corporation team rushed to the site to take action. Thankfully, they were able to control the water overflow relatively quickly, preventing the situation from escalating further.
While the immediate danger of water spillage has been managed, repair work is still underway. Officials have stated that it will take around 24 hours to complete the necessary repairs and restore the pipeline to full functionality. However, until the repairs are done, residents in nearby areas might face water supply disruptions, adding to their frustration.
The waterlogged road has also created significant traffic jams, with many commuters stuck for hours in the area. People are urging the authorities to upgrade Karachi’s outdated water systems to avoid similar incidents in the future.
