The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has introduced the Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme, a transformative initiative aimed at providing interest-free loans of up to Rs 1.5 million to low-income families for housing construction, renovation, or expansion. This program seeks to address the housing needs of underprivileged communities, ensuring access to affordable and quality housing solutions.
Key Details of the Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme
- Loan Amount: Up to Rs 1.5 million.
- Allocation: Rs 4 billion allocated to the scheme.
- Repayment Plan: Easy installments spread over seven years, with a maximum monthly payment of Rs 18,000.
- Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must own land to qualify.
Partnership for Execution
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Housing Department and the Bank of Khyber to ensure seamless implementation. The scheme operates under a revolving fund system and is expected to remain active for seven years.
Launch Ceremony Highlights
The launch ceremony was chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and attended by key cabinet members, including Dr. Amjad Ali Khan and Muzammil Aslam, alongside officials from relevant departments and the Bank of Khyber.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Gandapur highlighted the government’s commitment to improving housing for low-income groups. “The Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme reflects our dedication to uplifting the living standards of disadvantaged communities by providing them with dignified housing options,” he stated.
Naya Pakistan Housing Program
The Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme complements the broader Naya Pakistan Housing Program in KP. In October, the provincial government launched a low-cost housing project for individuals earning less than Rs 50,000 per month.
This project spans 150 kanals of land and has an estimated cost of Rs 3,300 million. Phase one includes the construction of 120 flats, with plans for a total of 1,320 apartments to be developed.
How the Scheme Benefits Low-Income Families
The initiative ensures financial accessibility with its interest-free model and affordable repayment structure. Beneficiaries can use the loans to construct new homes or improve existing ones, significantly enhancing their quality of life.
The Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme underscores the KP government’s resolve to prioritize housing for low-income families. With its interest-free loans and sustainable implementation, the program offers a practical solution to housing challenges, contributing to the larger vision of the Naya Pakistan Housing Program.
