Anwar Maqsood Abducted? The Truth Behind the Rumors

Anwar Maqsood, a celebrated writer, addressed recent rumors about his supposed abduction and mocking state martyrs during the International Urdu Conference in Karachi, which ended on Sunday. “I’ve been writing for 70 years and would never think of mocking martyrs,” Maqsood stated at the event.

He shared that since the previous night, his family had been bombarded with calls from across the globe inquiring if the news of his abduction was true. The closing ceremony of the International Urdu Festival, held at the YMCA Ground, was a vibrant gathering of writers, poets, and artists.

“I have been writing and reading for sixty years. I cannot joke about martyrs; they gave their lives for us, and I honor them in my writings,” Maqsood added, apologizing for any hurt caused by his words. “I cannot even think of speaking against them. If I have caused anyone pain, I sincerely apologize.”

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, at the event, remarked, “In a city lacking electricity, water, gas, or jobs, we still gather today for this Karachi celebration.” He emphasized that seeing children speak Urdu in schools reinforced his belief that such conferences should occur twice a year.
