Twin Cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi Declare Holiday
Similarly, the administrations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have declared December 16 a holiday for all private and public educational institutions. The Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi, Hasan Waqar Cheema, issued a formal notice stating that all schools and colleges in the district will be closed. In Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon confirmed the same through an official notification.
Remembering the APS Tragedy
The holiday coincides with the anniversary of the tragic Army Public School (APS) attack in Peshawar on December 16, 2014, where six terrorists brutally martyred around 150 students and teachers. This incident led to the formulation of the National Action Plan (NAP), aimed at eliminating terrorism in Pakistan.
Sindh Announces Holidays for December 25-26
In a separate development, the Sindh government has declared a two-day public holiday on December 25 and 26. This announcement ensures a break for educational institutions during the winter season in Sindh.
