The Sindh government has declared December 27 as a public holiday to mark the 17th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, Pakistan’s first female prime minister and the first woman to lead a Muslim-majority country.
3-Day Public Holiday by Sindh Government:
With this, Sindh residents will enjoy a three-day break starting December 25. The provincial government had already announced holidays on December 25 and 26. December 25 is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, while December 26 is for Christian employees to observe Christmas. Adding December 27 as a holiday gives citizens a chance to remember Benazir Bhutto’s legacy, who tragically lost her life in an attack on December 27, 2007.

During this time, all government offices across Sindh will remain closed. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), led by the Bhutto family, has planned several events nationwide to honor Benazir Bhutto’s contributions to the country.
The PPP’s programs include rallies, memorial services, and gatherings, with the main event happening at the Bhutto family’s ancestral home in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh. These events will feature prayers and discussions on Benazir Bhutto’s leadership, vision, and sacrifices for Pakistan.
This extended holiday not only allows people to reflect on the nation’s history but also ensures that her legacy as a trailblazer and symbol of resilience continues to inspire future generations.
