The Sindh government has confirmed that double-decker buses will soon be introduced in Karachi, with preparations underway to purchase these buses for the city’s transportation network. The buses are expected to run on the city’s key thoroughfare, Shahrah-e-Faisal, providing a modern and efficient mode of transport for commuters.
Sindh Government’s Initiative to Improve Public Transport
Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh’s Minister for Transport and Information, announced the exciting development during a media briefing on Tuesday. He confirmed that the Sindh government is making efforts to enhance public transport options across the province. The double-decker buses are part of a broader initiative to improve Karachi’s transportation infrastructure.
“Double-decker buses will be introduced on Shahrah-e-Faisal this year, contributing to the improvement of public transport in Karachi,” said Sharjeel Memon. This move is expected to ease congestion and provide a more comfortable commute for Karachiites.
Challenges Faced by Red Line BRT Project
While discussing the delay in the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, Memon clarified that the delay was not caused by any hindrances from the Sindh government. Instead, the delay was due to the need for the transfer of utilities along the proposed route. The Red Line BRT is expected to provide a major boost to the city’s public transport system once it is completed.
Milestones for Karachi’s Infrastructure Projects
Sharjeel Memon also highlighted other key infrastructure developments underway in Karachi. He revealed that in two days, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will inaugurate the Malir Expressway, a significant project for Karachi’s urban mobility. The expressway is being presented as a gift to the citizens of Karachi by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Additionally, Memon mentioned that the Yellow Line BRT board will invite representatives from the Karachi Industrial Traders Association to its next meeting, signaling collaboration with key stakeholders to improve transportation in the city.
Jam Sadiq Bridge Construction Progress
The Sindh Minister also set an ambitious target for the completion of the Jam Sadiq Bridge, stating that the work on the bridge will be completed within the next eight months. The bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion and further enhance the city’s transportation network.
A Step Toward Better Transport in Karachi
The introduction of double-decker buses, along with ongoing infrastructure projects, marks a significant step toward modernizing Karachi’s transport system. With the Sindh government’s commitment to improving public transport, these initiatives are expected to alleviate traffic issues and provide Karachiites with a more efficient and comfortable travel experience.
