Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Closes CNG Stations to Prioritize Domestic Gas Supply During Winter

The Home Department has announced that all CNG stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain closed until January 31. This decision comes as a measure to address the low gas pressure affecting domestic consumers during the harsh winter season.

The official notification stated that the step has been taken to ensure a steady gas supply for households facing difficulties due to reduced gas pressure in freezing temperatures. Authorities aim to alleviate the challenges faced by domestic users by temporarily halting CNG operations.

Sales Tax on CNG Increases Nationwide

Adding to the concerns of CNG users, the federal government recently raised the sales tax on compressed natural gas (CNG) supply. For Region One, which includes areas like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Gujar Khan, the sales tax value has surged from Rs 140 to Rs 200 per kilogram. Similarly, in Region Two, encompassing cities in Sindh and Punjab, the sales tax has risen from Rs 135 to Rs 200 per kilogram.

As per the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the new sales tax rate of 18% will be applied based on the updated value of Rs 200 per kilogram.

The closure of CNG stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the sales tax increase highlight the government’s efforts to manage the ongoing gas crisis. By prioritizing domestic gas supply during winter, authorities aim to minimize the suffering of households struggling with low gas pressure.
