Pakistan Railways Increases Fares by 5% from February 5, 2025

Pakistan Railways has announced a 5% increase in train fares, effective February 5, 2025. The fare hike applies to all train classes, including passenger express trains, salon service, and outsourced trains. According to the Pakistan Railways spokesperson, the increase is due to rising diesel prices.

New Ticket Refund Policy Announced

Along with the fare revision, Pakistan Railways introduced a new ticket refund policy on January 30, 2025. The new policy outlines different refund percentages based on the cancellation time:

  • 90% refund for cancellations 48 hours before train departure.
  • 80% refund for cancellations 24 to 48 hours before departure.
  • 70% refund for cancellations within 24 hours before departure.
  • 50% refund for cancellations within 2 hours after departure.
  • 100% refund if the train is delayed by six hours or more.

Refund Process for POS and Online Tickets

Refunds for Point of Sale (POS) tickets can only be processed at designated railway counters. Passengers must provide their original ticket and a copy of their CNIC to receive a refund along with a cancellation slip.

For online tickets, refunds will be processed through the same platform used for payment. The same refund policy applies to both POS and online tickets, but with key restrictions:

  • No refund will be issued after train departure for online tickets.
  • If less than 1 hour and 30 minutes remain before departure, online tickets cannot be canceled.

Passengers are advised to carefully review their booking details and ensure they follow the refund policy rules when requesting a ticket cancellation. For additional information, travelers can visit the nearest railway station or check the official Pakistan Railways website.
