Ghee Prices Surge in Pakistan Ahead of Ramadan 2025

According to market reports, the price of first-grade ghee in the wholesale market has surged to Rs 595 per kg, while second-grade ghee prices range between Rs 540 and Rs 550 per kg. This price hike has added to the financial burden of consumers already struggling with inflation.

Tahir Thaqleen Butt, President of the Grocery Merchants Association, has raised concerns about the pricing strategy of ghee manufacturers. He stated that companies typically increase prices before Ramadan and later reduce them slightly to create a false impression of a price cut. He urged authorities to monitor ghee manufacturers closely and take action against artificial inflation.
Global Market vs. Local Prices
Despite a decline in global prices of soybean and palm oil, ghee prices in Pakistan continue to rise. This disparity has led to speculation that local manufacturers are manipulating prices for higher profits ahead of Ramadan.
