Karachi’s administration has announced a special traffic management plan for Ramadan 2025 to ensure smooth vehicular movement, particularly during Iftar hours. As part of this initiative, additional traffic wardens will be deployed from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM across the city.
Traffic Control Measures for Ramadan
The decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi on Saturday. The meeting focused on reviewing the city’s traffic flow strategies for Ramadan, which began on Sunday.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Police, Ahmed Shah, briefed the attendees that special traffic personnel will regulate movement on major roads during peak hours. Additionally, help desks will be set up in commercial areas to assist motorists and manage the increased traffic due to Eid shopping.
Ensuring Proper Use of Parking Spaces
To further ease congestion, authorities have emphasized the proper use of basement parking facilities in shopping malls and commercial buildings. It was highlighted that some establishments had repurposed these areas for storage or shops, leading to parking shortages and traffic bottlenecks.
As part of the directive, the basement parking spaces of Imtiaz Supermarket on Rashid Minhas Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Chase Up Value on Kashmir Road, which were previously non-operational, will be reopened immediately for public parking. The respective owners have been instructed to comply with this order.
Impact of the New Traffic Plan
The enhanced deployment of traffic wardens and reopening of parking spaces are expected to significantly reduce congestion in key commercial areas. With these measures, the Karachi administration aims to ensure a smoother and more organized traffic flow throughout Ramadan, particularly during Iftar and peak shopping hours.
