Solar Home System Kits for Sindh: Weekly Distribution Targets 400 Families

Karachi – The Sindh government has intensified its efforts to promote clean energy by expanding solar energy projects across the province. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced that several government buildings are being solarized to ensure sustainable and affordable electricity.

Government Buildings Going Solar

Under this initiative, 97 government buildings have already been converted to solar power, with over 300 more set to follow. This transition aims to reduce dependency on conventional energy sources and provide cost-effective electricity solutions.

Solar Home System Distribution in Sindh

Speaking at a ceremony for the distribution of solar home systems, CM Murad Ali Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to providing cheap electricity and clean water to the people of Sindh. This initiative aligns with the directives of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

The Sindh government has set an ambitious target to distribute 400 solar home system kits weekly in each district. The initiative is particularly focused on low-income communities. In Karachi, the first phase will see the distribution of 200,000 solar home systems, marking the third such initiative in the city.

Support from Sindh Bank and Benazir Bhutto Income Support Program

Provincial Minister Nasir Hussain Shah stated that the project is part of a five-year plan, ensuring solar home systems reach areas in Karachi that still lack electricity. To support the initiative, Sindh Bank will offer loans for the purchase of solar home systems. The Benazir Bhutto Income Support Program is also assisting in providing solar solutions to deserving households.

New Solar Parks and Job Creation

Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah further revealed that two solar parks are under construction in Karachi. These projects will help reduce electricity costs while creating new employment opportunities. Additionally, various hospitals, schools, and institutions for special children have already been solarized, reflecting the province’s broader clean energy plan.

Call for Federal Support

CM Murad Ali Shah also urged the federal government to prevent gas load shedding and fulfill its constitutional responsibility to ensure energy availability. The Sindh government remains committed to achieving sustainable energy solutions and improving the lives of its citizens through clean energy initiatives.

With ongoing solar energy projects, the Sindh government is making significant strides toward a sustainable and greener future. By prioritizing solarization in government buildings, low-income communities, and major cities like Karachi, the province is leading the way in Pakistan’s transition to renewable energy.
