Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced the CM Education Card, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing educational support for students in government schools. What is the CM Education Card?
The CM Education Card will facilitate students by providing them with essential academic resources, financial assistance, and additional support to ensure a seamless learning experience. It aims to empower students by reducing financial barriers to education and promoting higher enrollment rates in government schools.
CM Eminence/Star Card for High Achievers
In addition to the CM Education Card, students securing over 80% marks will be awarded the CM Eminence/Star Card as an incentive to encourage academic excellence. This initiative aims to motivate students to excel in their studies by offering special privileges and rewards.
Expanding Access to Education
One of the key objectives of the Punjab government’s education reforms is to enroll two million out-of-school children annually. To support this mission, CM Maryam Nawaz has also announced the launch of a school meal program in Bhakkar, Layyah, and other districts. This initiative aims to improve student health and attendance by ensuring that children receive proper nutrition during school hours.
Public School Reorganization Program: Key Developments
The Public School Reorganization Program has already delivered significant improvements:
- 52% increase in student enrollment, rising from 242,000 to 368,000.
- 89% increase in the number of teachers in outsourced schools, with salaries tripled.
- Infrastructure upgrades, including 35 new classrooms, renovation of 459 existing classrooms, and construction of 110 new toilets.
- Schools equipped with modern computer labs, additional furniture, and improved boundary walls and water supply systems.
Introduction of Technical Education in Schools
To modernize education, the Punjab government is introducing technical education from Grade 5. Key initiatives include:
- Establishing a state-of-the-art lab for Matric Tech students.
- Introducing vocational courses in agriculture, fashion design, and ICT at the matriculation level.
- Launching English conversation classes in 338 schools in Lahore as part of a pilot project.
- Working on an agreement to offer internationally certified English courses in public schools.
Teacher Recruitment and Administrative Improvements
To ensure efficient administration and better learning outcomes:
- The appointment process for 287 CEOs, DEOs, and education officers across Punjab has been completed.
- Under the School Teacher Internship Program, 12,500 interns will be recruited to strengthen the teaching workforce.
- For the first time in Punjab’s history, the government ensured timely delivery of textbooks at the start of the academic year in March.
Future Plans for Punjab’s Education System
The Punjab government has outlined an ambitious five-year development plan, which includes:
- Construction of 30,000 new classrooms to accommodate growing student populations.
- Establishment of 600 elementary schools and 400 high schools.
- Engaging alumni to support new school grounds, buildings, and classrooms.
