Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to restart its flights to the United Kingdom following the lifting of the European Union’s ban. According to Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Muhammad Faisal, the national carrier will resume operations after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Initial Routes for PIA UK Flights
Speaking at an Iftar dinner in London attended by journalists and social media influencers, Dr. Faisal announced that PIA will initially operate flights from London and Manchester to Pakistan. Additionally, discussions are ongoing regarding the restoration of services from Birmingham.
To mark the occasion, a special inaugural event will be held, where media representatives will be invited.
End of a Four-Year Suspension
The European Union had imposed a ban on PIA flights in June 2020 after a tragic plane crash in Karachi. This followed an aviation minister’s statement regarding irregularities in pilot licensing. However, following extensive regulatory improvements, the ban was partially lifted, allowing PIA to resume flights to Paris on January 10, 2024. The airline is now ready to reintroduce direct flights to the UK.
