Karachi water supply issue was finally resolved early this morning after electricity was restored at the Pipri Pumping Station. Residents of Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Bin Qasim, and DHA had faced disrupted water services due to a major power breakdown that occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Power Breakdown at Pipri Station Affected Water Supply in Karachi
According to a spokesperson for the Water Corporation, the power failure happened at 3:35 AM at the Pipri Pumping Station, one of the major sources of water pumping for Karachi. The electricity remained suspended for several hours and was finally restored around 8:20 AM.
This outage caused a significant disruption in the city’s water supply, with an estimated shortage of 43 million gallons per day (MGD) expected across multiple localities.
Which Areas Were Affected?
Due to the sudden electricity breakdown at Pipri Station, water supply was halted to several major areas of Karachi. Affected localities include:
- Landhi
- Korangi
- Shah Faisal
- Bin Qasim
- DHA (Defence Housing Authority)
Water supply has now been resumed, but the shortage caused overnight may still affect water availability in some neighborhoods during the day.
Citizens Advised to Conserve Water
Residents are advised to use water responsibly today as Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) works to stabilize supply levels after the disruption. Full pressure in pipelines may take a few hours to normalize.
