Karachi rickshaw ban has officially been imposed across 11 major roads, targeting illegal and unauthorized One-Plus-Two and One-Plus-Four rickshaws. The new traffic regulation is effective from April 15 to June 14, 2025, under Section 144 CrPC, aiming to control road congestion and improve public safety.
Two-Month Ban on One-Plus-Two and One-Plus-Four Rickshaws in Karachi
The Karachi traffic police have announced a strict two-month rickshaw ban, specifically cracking down on One-Plus-Two and One-Plus-Four motor cabs that are commonly seen creating traffic chaos on busy roads. The directive, backed by DIG Traffic’s recommendations, empowers traffic authorities to take legal action under Section 188 PPC if the ban is violated.
Which Roads Are Affected in the Karachi Rickshaw Ban?
The Karachi rickshaw ban roads list includes some of the city’s busiest routes such as:
- Shahrah-e-Faisal
- I.I. Chundrigar Road
- Shaheed-e-Millat Road
- Stadium Road
- Areas around Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine
According to the notification, a complete ban has been enforced on One-Plus-Two and One-Plus-Four rickshaws on Shahrah-e-Faisal and I.I. Chundrigar Road, due to severe traffic blockages caused by these unauthorized vehicles.
The city administration took this step because unauthorized rickshaws were operating on self-created routes, blocking traffic and increasing the risk of road accidents. The Karachi traffic update shows that this ban is meant to streamline traffic flow and ensure safer travel for citizens.
Karachi Commissioner confirmed that traffic police have full authority to lodge complaints and take immediate action. All SHOs have received orders to implement the rickshaw ban strictly. If any rickshaw is found violating the traffic restriction, the driver will face legal consequences as per PPC 188.
Rickshaw Drivers Advised to Use Alternative Routes
To avoid fines or vehicle impoundment, rickshaw drivers in Karachi are advised to shift to alternative routes outside the banned zones. The goal is not just enforcement but improving Karachi traffic conditions and minimizing road accidents during peak hours.
