The Sindh government has officially declared a public holiday in Umerkot district on April 17, 2025, due to the upcoming by-elections in NA-213 Umerkot. As per the latest notification, all public and private offices, schools, and institutions in the district will remain closed to facilitate the smooth conduct of the elections.
The public holiday in Umerkot on April 17 has been announced specifically for the NA-213 by-election, which is scheduled for the same day. This step has been taken to ensure maximum voter participation and to maintain law and order during the polling process. The decision comes as part of the Sindh government’s efforts to support the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in organizing a peaceful and fair election.
This by-election was triggered after the unfortunate demise of Nawab Yousuf Talpur, who was elected as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-213 Umerkot in the 2024 general elections. He passed away in February 2025, leaving the seat vacant. To fill this position, the by-election in NA-213 has been scheduled for April 17, 2025.
