In a historic move, Pakistan has officially approved the launch of its first high-speed Lahore-Rawalpindi bullet train, along with the inauguration of its first provincial airline, Air Punjab. The announcements were made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Lahore-Rawalpindi Bullet Train Project Officially Approved
The Lahore-Rawalpindi bullet train project aims to revolutionize travel between the two major cities. According to ARY News, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi confirmed that a working group has been formed. The group includes Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar, the Chairman of Pakistan Railways, and other key officials who will oversee the feasibility study and set the timeline for the project.
Maryam Aurangzeb stated that the recommendations from the working group would be presented to CM Maryam Nawaz next week. She emphasized that the bullet train Pakistan project fulfills another major promise to the public, aiming to deliver fast, affordable, and comfortable transportation for the people of Punjab.
Once operational, the bullet train Lahore to Rawalpindi is expected to cut the travel time to just two-and-a-half hours. Further details, including the Rawalpindi to Lahore train ticket price and timing, will be released after the feasibility study is completed.
Air Punjab Airline Launch Approved
In addition to the bullet train project, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif also officially approved the launch of Air Punjab. The Air Punjab airline launch marks a significant milestone, focusing initially on domestic flights across Pakistan.
Four Airbus aircraft will be leased to start operations quickly. After a successful first year, Air Punjab plans to expand internationally, with a vision to offer premium services and set new standards in the aviation industry.
CM Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the launch of Air Punjab will not only boost domestic connectivity but also create new opportunities for growth in Pakistan’s airline sector.
The approval of the Lahore-Rawalpindi bullet train project and the Air Punjab airline launch reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to modernizing the province’s transportation infrastructure. With the promise of faster travel and improved airline services, these initiatives are set to provide significant benefits to the people of Punjab and the broader region.
