Karachi University Water Pipeline Burst: Check Which Areas Are Affected

A massive 84-inch water pipeline passing near the staff colony of the University of Karachi has suffered a serious leak, causing a city-wide water disruption. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has initiated urgent repair work, which is expected to take four days to complete.

Water Supply Suspended in Key Karachi Districts

Due to the leakage, residents in District East, District Central, Korangi, and South Karachi will face severe water shortages. According to KWSC officials, the repair is extensive, and normal supply will only be restored after the four-day operation concludes.

“Our teams are working around the clock to fix the pipeline. The water supply to several areas will remain affected until the issue is fully resolved,” said a KWSC spokesperson.

Background of the Pipeline Issue

The pipeline is a crucial part of the city’s water distribution system and has suffered damage in the past, primarily due to ongoing construction of the BRT Red Line on University Road. This recurring issue has impacted millions of residents and added pressure to Karachi’s already strained water infrastructure.

KWSC Urges Residents to Conserve Water

KWSC has urged citizens in the affected districts to store water in advance and use it wisely until the repair work is completed. Tanker services may also be arranged in some high-demand areas to alleviate the crisis.

Areas Most Affected

  • District East: Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and surrounding areas
  • District Central: North Karachi, Nazimabad, Federal B Area
  • Korangi: Landhi, Korangi Industrial Area
  • District South: Saddar, Clifton, and surrounding neighborhoods

When Will Water Supply Be Restored?

If all goes according to plan, water supply in the affected areas is expected to resume by May 4, 2025. KWSC assures that progress updates will be shared regularly through official channels.
