Punjab Schools Summer Vacations 2025: Start Date and What to Expect

The Punjab School Education Department has officially declared the start of summer vacations for all schools across the province. According to the announcement, the summer holidays will begin on June 1, 2025.

The decision comes as temperatures in Punjab continue to rise, prompting the government to prioritize the health and safety of students, teachers, and school staff. Secretary of School Education, Khalid Nazir Wattoo, stated that the schedule could be adjusted if temperatures soar even higher than expected.

“In case of an unusual spike in heat, vacations may start a week earlier,” Wattoo said, emphasizing that the health and well-being of everyone involved is the top priority.

Rising Temperatures and Climate Change Impact

The announcement aligns with the rising temperatures across the province, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department issued a heatwave alert for the period from April 26 to April 30, 2025. The alert forecasts an increase in daytime temperatures due to a high-pressure system, which is expected to affect most parts of the country by April 27.

The school vacations are set to provide relief to students and staff during this period of extreme heat, which could be exacerbated by climate change, according to experts. Wattoo also noted that the country is facing the consequences of climate change, leading to unpredictable weather patterns and more frequent natural disasters.

Health Advisory During Heatwave

With the heat expected to continue rising, citizens are advised to stay safe by staying hydrated and avoiding direct sunlight, especially between midday and afternoon. Children, elderly individuals, and pregnant women are particularly urged to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Farmers, too, have been urged to adjust their schedules for wheat harvesting and ensure their livestock remains protected from the extreme temperatures. Moreover, authorities warn of potential snowmelt acceleration in northern regions due to rising temperatures, which could have implications for local water levels.

What to Expect

  • Southern regions, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, are expected to experience temperatures 5-7°C above normal from April 26 to May 1.
  • Upper areas, such as central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan, will see temperatures 4-6°C above normal from April 27 to April 30.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued additional guidance, warning of unstable weather from May 1 to May 7, and urging citizens to take extra care during this period.

As summer vacations 2025 are set to begin on June 1, the Punjab government is taking proactive steps to safeguard public health amid the challenges posed by extreme weather. The early announcement of school holidays reflects a responsible approach to ensuring the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and families in the face of rising temperatures and climate challenges.
