Mahandri Bridge Update: Can You Travel to Kaghan and Naran Now?

The vital transport link on the Kaghan Highway in Mansehra district, “Mahandri Bridge” reopened for all types of traffic on June 19, 2025 according to sources, following a scheduled construction closure from June 15 to June 18. This bridge connects key areas including Naran, Kaghan, and surrounding regions, and plays a central role in tourism and local travel.

Travelers on June 19 reported traffic congestion near the Mahandri Bridge due to double-lane formations and disorganized vehicle movement. Despite these challenges, the bridge remains fully operational for all vehicle types.

The Mahandri Bridge previously destroyed by a flash flood on July 30, 2024, caused by overflow in the Munawar Nullah. The incident disrupted travel and stranded thousands of tourists in the Kaghan Valley. Reconstruction was initiated by the National Highway Authority (NHA) and Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), with support from the Pakistan Army. Within 14 days, the bridge was rebuilt and reopened to traffic on August 13, 2024. During reconstruction, a pedestrian path was provided and small vehicles were allowed to cross gradually.

The latest Mahandri Bridge update confirms that construction activity in the area was carried out recently, resulting in the temporary closure. No further closures have been announced at this time, but authorities advise travelers to remain alert to traffic conditions and plan ahead.

The bridge’s importance to the Kaghan Valley’s tourism sector remains significant. NHA has also installed over 200 compact steel bridges in the broader Mahandri region to maintain road connectivity.
