UAE and Pakistan sign visa exemption agreement during the 12th session of the Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in Abu Dhabi on June 24, 2025. The agreement allows visa-free entry for holders of diplomatic and official passports from both countries.
The MoU was signed by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The visa exemption agreement applies strictly to diplomatic and official passport holders. Ordinary Pakistani passport holders remain subject to UAE visa regulations.
This agreement was signed to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The JMC session resumed after a 12-year gap and included additional agreements on promoting UAE investments in Pakistan’s strategic sectors and collaboration on AI and the digital economy.
The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, with trade exceeding $10.9 billion in fiscal year 2023–24. Over 1.5 million Pakistanis work in the UAE, contributing over $5 billion in remittances annually. A protocol was also signed to establish sectoral working groups and plan reciprocal visits. The next JMC session will be hosted by Pakistan.
Despite the visa exemption agreement, Pakistani citizens with ordinary passports still face restrictions. UAE visa policies for Pakistanis remain strict in 2025, requiring police verification, biometric fee receipt, and return documents. Reports of a five-year UAE multiple-entry visa for Pakistanis remain unconfirmed by official sources.
