A 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit Balochistan today, 29 June 2025, causing damage in several areas. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at around 3:30 AM. The epicenter was located about 60 kilometers north-northeast of Barkhan district. The depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometers. Due to the shallow depth, the earthquake felt strongly in nearby regions.
The tremors of the Balochistan earthquake today reported in Barkhan’s Rara Sheem tehsil, Kingri, and surrounding areas. A senior Levies officer confirmed that three people, including a couple, were injured in Rara Sheem when the roof of their house collapsed during the earthquake. The injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
More than six houses were damaged in the earthquake, and cracks appeared in several other buildings. Levies officials stated that rescue teams have been sent to the affected areas to assess damage and start relief work. Authorities have urged residents to stay away from unsafe structures due to the possibility of aftershocks.
Pakistan is situated on the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making the country vulnerable to earthquakes. Rescue teams are active in Barkhan and other affected regions, and efforts are underway to assist earthquake victims. Citizens are advised to remain alert and follow safety guidelines.
