Pakistan Railways has announced a 2% increase in all passenger train fares, including ticket prices for express, mail, shuttle, saloon, and advance booking categories. The revised fares came into effect from 4 July 2025. This decision follows a significant rise in diesel prices, which has directly impacted operational costs.

According to official sources, this is the second increase in Pakistan Railway ticket prices within the last two weeks. On 18 June 2025, fares for passenger trains were increased by 3%, while freight charges were raised by 4%. The latest 2% increase applies across the board to all passenger categories, making a cumulative rise of around 5% in ticket prices since mid-June.
The fare adjustments come as the federal government raised petrol prices by Rs 8.36 per litre and diesel prices by Rs 10.39 per litre. The new rates set petrol at approximately Rs 266.79 per litre and diesel at Rs 272.98 per litre for the current fortnight. Rising diesel prices have added to the financial burden of Pakistan Railways, resulting in losses estimated at over Rs 109 million per month.
Pakistan Railways has issued official notifications instructing the Director of IT and Divisional Superintendents to update all ticketing systems to implement the revised Pakistan Railway ticket prices nationwide.
