PDMA Issues Urgent Flood Warning in Punjab as River Levels Soar

PDMA Punjab issued a flood alert due to rising water levels in major rivers, flash flooding in hill torrents, and urban flooding risk across Punjab. According to the Met Office (Bulletin No C-018/25), strong monsoon currents combined with a westerly wave expected to affect upper catchments of major rivers in Punjab from 6th July 2025.

From 7th July 2025, significant increase in river flows forecasted in all major rivers along with their tributaries. Flash flooding is likely in hill torrents of D.G. Khan Division, while urban flooding expected in metropolitan cities of North and Central Punjab.

Authorities highlighted possible impacts including landslides that may block roads in Murree and Galliyat during the wet spell. Heavy rain, windstorm, and lightning may damage weak structures like kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

Farmers have been advised to manage agricultural activities as per the weather forecast. Travelers and tourists urged to plan journeys carefully to avoid untoward situations.

Rescue 1122 and disaster response teams are on high alert with emergency staff and equipment. DEOCs directed to ensure round-the-clock staffing for effective coordination. Authorities instructed to share updates with PDMA Punjab, national bodies, and local communities via Patwaris, Lumberdars, notables, and mosque announcements.

The alert covers major areas at risk of flood in Punjab, flash flooding DG Khan hill torrents, and urban flooding in North and Central Punjab. PDMA Punjab has advised close monitoring of the situation and timely communication of weather forecasts and warnings.
