Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar decomposed body found in her DHA Phase VI apartment on July 8, 2025, during a police-led eviction due to unpaid rent. Her body was discovered after a foul smell prompted police and bailiffs to force entry into the locked flat.
Initial postmortem, led by police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, confirmed the body was in an advanced state of decomposition. Although initial reports suggested death occurred two weeks prior, forensic evidence such as expired food dated September 2024, inactive SIM cards, and a disconnected power supply from October 2024 now place her death around October 2024—approximately nine months before discovery.
There were no signs of forced entry or physical trauma. The apartment was locked from the inside. Exact cause of death is pending a chemical examiner’s report.
Humaira Asghar Funeral and Last Rites
Reports initially confirmed the family, residing in Lahore, refused to claim the body, including a direct statement by Humaira’s father. This led to public backlash and intervention by celebrities and welfare organizations.
On July 10, the family reversed their stance, and Humaira’s brother-in-law contacted police to claim her body. The handover is pending final formalities. The body remains in the morgue.
Provincial Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah directed the Sindh Department of Culture to manage the burial if the family failed to do so. A letter was sent to the DIG East requesting handover of the body. Shah confirmed the department would act as legal guardian and oversee all arrangements, including burial and cemetery protocols.
The Director General of Culture has been appointed as the focal person in the matter.
Actors Collective Trust (ACT) and Industry Support
The Actors Collective Trust (ACT), along with social activist Meharbano Sethi, coordinated with CHHIPA Welfare to ensure a respectful burial. ACT confirmed its commitment to preserving artist dignity regardless of personal or familial challenges.
Prominent figures including Sonya Hussyn, Bushra Ansari, and Nadia Afgan publicly expressed grief and offered support. Hussyn released a video urging for respectful last rites. Sethi criticized those attempting to exploit the funeral for media coverage and stressed the need for a private burial in a marked grave.
