A fire broke out at Hafeez Center Lahore on July 10, 2025, disrupting commercial activity in one of the city’s largest electronics markets. The incident occurred in the basement of the multi-storey plaza located in Gulberg, triggering emergency response from Rescue 1122 and local fire brigades. The fire at Hafeez Center was brought under control after several hours of firefighting operations.
Authorities reported that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit. Preliminary findings suggest the cause may be linked to faulty wiring and rainwater seepage in the basement. No injuries or casualties were reported, though several vehicles including motorcycles and cars were damaged in the basement parking area.
Traders and shopkeepers at Hafeez Centre expressed concern over financial losses, with damage assessments still underway. Many fear significant losses to electronics inventory and personal property. The Hafeez Center Lahore fire marks the third major incident at the location, following similar events in 2010 and 2020. Previous fires resulted in extensive losses and had prompted safety recommendations that were not fully implemented.
Despite past structural assessments and directives for fire safety upgrades, the plaza continued operations without complete compliance. Authorities had previously sealed the plaza in 2020 but reopened it after partial clearance, raising concerns over enforcement of safety bylaws.
Cooling operations continued into the evening, and police cordoned off the area to prevent public entry. Access to the building remains restricted while investigations and safety checks are ongoing. An official inquiry is in progress to determine the extent of negligence and responsibility.
