RAWALPINDI, Pakistan – July 18, 2025 – Intermittent rain has been falling in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and nearby areas since last night, and more showers are expected today (Friday), according to ARY News, citing the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The heavy rainfall has caused serious problems in both cities. In response, Pakistan Army troops have been deployed to help with rescue and relief efforts.
A flood and rain emergency have been declared throughout the Rawalpindi Division due to the current weather situation.
A Commissioner’s Office spokesperson said that all related departments and emergency teams are on high alert and ready to respond to any situation.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) in Islamabad to check the country’s readiness for monsoon rains and possible flood emergencies.

During his visit, NDMA Chairman Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik gave a detailed update to the Prime Minister about the flood situation, the early warning system, and coordination efforts with local and provincial authorities.
Officials told the Prime Minister that rainfall has increased by 30–40% above normal, raising the risk of flash floods and water overflow in many areas.
In response, Shehbaz Sharif directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to make sure that flood alerts are sent quickly to the public through SMS and mobile notifications.
