The CM Punjab Green Taxi project introduced to offer interest-free electric cabs to jobless youngsters in Punjab. Under the supervision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the initiative will help decrease air and noise pollution and provide jobs using self-owned electric vehicles taxi services.
During the initial stage, 1,100 electric vehicles will be supplied under interest-free financing. The Honri VC20–VC30 with a 200 km and 300 km autonomy respectively, are chosen. Dewan Motors locally builds both of their models and standard features include GPS, AC, ABS, and rear-view cameras.
Eligible applicants must be Punjab residents aged 21 to 45 with a valid CNIC and LTV driving license. Priority will be given to women, persons with disabilities, and youth from rural areas. Over 60,000 applications have already been received.
Funding will be done by the Bank of Punjab, in Qarz-e-Hasna outline. It requires down payment and is to be repaid using the earnings made using ride-hailing applications such as Uber, Careem, and InDrive.
Lahore is installing charging stations every 3 km, in a wider roll-out plan that is nation-bound. Training, pilot deployment, and registration will be done in a Centre of Excellence in Lahore.
The online registration, verification of documents, the training process, and the allotment of vehicles are contained in the application process. Soon the portal will be initiated through the Punjab Transport Department.
