Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah has suspended Dr. Agha Amir, Medical Superintendent of Sindh Government Hospital Saudabad, over misuse of a government vehicle number plate. During the suspension, his headquarters will remain the Sindh Health Department, and he will continue to receive his salary.

Official sources allege that Dr. Amir stole the registration plate (GS-6751) of a government vehicle and pasted it on his car. The plate was said to have been changed into a green plate from a yellow government plate.
The incident came to light when a private individual, identified as Dr. Amir’s associate, used the car with the tampered plate at the Bhutto Highway toll plaza. The person refused to pay toll charges, claiming the car was a government vehicle. Toll plaza staff took photos and reported the incident, prompting an inquiry.
Dr. Amir is a Grade-19 general cadre officer appointed as MS Saudabad in December 2024, succeeding an office holder of Grade-20 in the health management cadre. His appointment was against the Sindh Health Management Service Rules 2022, which required that the MS posts should be filled by the Grade-20 officers having qualifications in the field of public health education or hospital management.
During his term, there were also administrative problems, like the reports of an unlicensed blood bank and a deficiency of medicine in the hospital.
As per disciplinary procedures, a formal inquiry is expected. Further action depends on the outcome of the investigation.
