The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Pakistan has already proceeded to implement this online plot verification initiative by implementing centralized digital verification system to combat property fraud. The step is expected to make the activities of buying and selling properties simpler and assure consumers against fraud such as unlawful real estate handovers, forged documentation, and over-selling.
The new NAB property verification portal will unify records of all plots in Pakistan in a single platform. Now the users have the ability to check the legal status of a plot, check NOCs of a plot, available layout plans, and ownership information. The system produces certified reports that are useful in the transactions of the property as legal documents.
Accessible with just a plot number, the system offers plot verification online for both urban and rural areas. This enables buyers and sellers to independently verify data without depending on intermediaries, reducing reliance on potentially manipulated local records.
The system, in collaboration with NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi, which is monitored by NAB Chairman Lt Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed, allows many stakeholders to be facilitated. It will help the ordinary citizens, law enforcement officials, and regulators in fighting crimes that involve land.
The initiative is also in line with the mandate of NAB as provided in the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 that focuses on estate transparency in Pakistan. It is also a part of a wider move after a Rs3 trillion scam in Karachi land and more than 85,000 unauthorized constructions reported in five years.
Within a short period, the platform will be opened publicly, and users can use it to verify plot in Pakistan prior to making a transaction. Recommendations made by other agencies including ABAD also include the use of third party digitization to increase the accuracy of records.
