Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, in Washington, and the two discussed regional and bilateral issues of prime concern. The meeting appreciated maintaining the India-Pakistan ceasefire, addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and enhancing Pakistan-U.S. cooperation across multiple sectors.


Dar hailed the contribution of both President Trump and Secretary Rubio in promoting the India-Pakistan ceasefire and avoidance of the spiraling up of tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. He highlighted the importance of solving the Jammu and Kashmir situation according to UN resolutions and the hopes of the Kashmiri people.
Both sides discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza and called for intensified international efforts for peace in the Middle East.
Secretary Rubio acknowledged Pakistan’s role in regional stability and expressed appreciation for its efforts in counterterrorism, especially against ISIS-K. He confirmed the U.S.-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue will take place in Islamabad in August 2025.
Rubio and Dar exchanged interests in bilateral and long-term security cooperation and outlined the prospects of further bilateral cooperation in the field of countering terrorism.
Economic cooperation, in terms of trade, investment, and critical minerals was also reviewed by the leaders. Rubio emphasized the possibility of enhancing U.S. and Pakistan bilateral trade and mining cooperation. Dar emphasized the possibility of collaboration with IT, AI, crypto and minerals, both state and independently.
Dar informed Rubio of Pakistan’s sitting in the UN Security Council as President and Resolution 2788 on peaceful dispute settlement. He reassured that Pakistan is devoted to international peacebuilding and multilateral cooperation.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthen Pakistan-U.S. ties and continue working on bilateral, regional, and global issues, including trade, counterterrorism, and peace efforts.
