TV Anchor Shabana Liaqat and Family Go Missing After Babusar Top Flash Flood

Khyber TV anchor Shabana Liaqat, also known as Sapna Khan, went missing along with her husband and four children on July 21, 2025, after being swept away in a flash flood in Babusar Top, Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to rescue teams, the family was traveling through the Babusar region when a sudden and powerful flood occurred. Local volunteers participating in the ongoing search operation found a purse under debris containing identity cards and cash belonging to Shabana Liaqat and her family. The items confirm that the entire family was present at the site of the incident and was caught in the flood.

The missing has been made official. The affected area is still in search and rescue efforts.

Flash floods caused by recent monsoon rains have hit Babusar Top region. On earlier occasion, the Pakistan Meteorological Department had warned of floods in northern parts of the country including Gilgit-Baltistan.

Authorities have urged tourists to avoid traveling to Babusar and nearby areas due to unstable weather conditions. Multiple families and tourists have been impacted, and several search teams are deployed in the region.
