A shooting incident inside the house of senior JUI leader Mufti Kifayatullah in Batkhela, Malakand district, left two of his children dead and several family members injured. According to official sources, the gunfire broke out on Saturday evening, creating shock in the area.
What Happened in the Mufti Kifayatullah House Attack
Police and Levies officials confirmed that one son and one daughter of Mufti Kifayatullah died on the spot, while he and his wife sustained bullet injuries and were shifted to DHQ Hospital Batkhela. Hospital sources later stated that Mufti Kifayatullah’s condition is stable, while his wife remains under treatment in critical condition.
Initial reports suggest that the firing was allegedly carried out by one of his sons. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack on Mufti Kifayatullah and his family. Levies and police launched a search operation to trace and arrest the accused. Some reports, however, mention the involvement of an unidentified gunman, but the majority of accounts confirm it as a family-linked incident.
Rescue officials said teams reached the location after receiving information, shifting the injured and the deceased to hospital. Security forces have cordoned off the area, while investigators are trying to determine the motive behind the shooting.
Mufti Kifayatullah is a renowned religious and political leader, former member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and chief JUI-F of the district. The security issue regarding this event created due to the fear that there may be additional political assassinations in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan as it has occurred in the past this year.
