Karachi Declares Public Holiday and School Closures
Schools and colleges closed today after heavy rain in Karachi and urban flooding disrupted daily life on Thursday, August 21, 2025. The Sindh Education Department confirmed that all public and private educational institutions in the city will remain shut as part of safety measures.
Exams Postponed Amid Karachi Rains
Dow University of Health Sciences postponed its examinations until further notice, while Jinnah Sindh Medical University suspended physical exams but continued online activities. NED University of Engineering and Technology declared holidays and the Sindh Board of Technical Education rescheduled examinations.
Offices Remain Open Despite Karachi Floods 2025
Schools are closed in Karachi, but offices and businesses are open. Few offices permitted remote work, while numerous remained operational in flood-affected regions. Shahrah-e-Faisal, the major working centre, experienced a risky situation of flooding in which workers could not move out of the area until several hours passed. Roads were covered with cars, and bikes were floating, the public transport and vans did not pick up any staff, and some workers were forced to walk miles to reach home. Workers asked why Karachi declares public holiday and school closures when employees in offices continue to endure unsafe commutes.
Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded rainfall over 150 millimeters in areas including Saadi Town, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Nazimabad. This downpour caused Karachi floods 2025 warnings as recovery and De-watering missions went on in low elevation areas.
More Rain Expected as Karachi Floods Continue
The Karachi weather forecast warns of up to 100 millimeters of additional rainfall within 24 hours. While education has been suspended, businesses continue to operate, raising debate over public safety during ongoing Karachi floods.
