The United Nations has released $600,000 in emergency relief funds to support Pakistan in responding to the ongoing monsoon floods.
UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric confirmed in New York that the amount has been released from the organization’s emergency relief fund. The support is targeted at shelter, medical care, hygiene kits, safe drinking water, and cash assistance for families affected by the disaster.
Pakistan Flood Update 2025
It is reported that since the beginning of the monsoon rains on June 26, over 800 people have died and at least 1,088 are injured according to official figures. The most recent flood update demonstrates that thousands of families are still displaced and they have to be provided with urgent needs.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, more than 408 deaths have been reported since mid-August. In the Swat and Buner districts, flash floods triggered by cloudbursts have killed hundreds, with several still missing.
Punjab Pakistan Floods: Over 210,000 Evacuated
The government of Pakistan confirmed that more than 210,000 people evacuated in Punjab Pakistan floods as river levels continue to rise. The flood risk remains “very high to exceptionally high” after water releases from Indian dams. Authorities have issued warnings that the next 48 hours are critical for low-lying areas.
Military rescue operations are underway with 28,000 people rescued and 225 tons of rations distributed in multiple districts.
Rising Risk in Northern Areas
In Gilgit-Baltistan, a 7 km lake created due to a mountain mudslide that elevated the danger of large scale flooding. Part discharges of water have led to lessened pressure but the authorities have cautioned of potential flooding of the downstream. There are evacuations that are currently occurring in the affected valleys.
Raising the relief efforts is the Pakistani government in collaboration with the United Nations and local partners.
Moreover, Gates Foundation and the World Health Organization have declared a one million health project in order to assist over 465,000 victims of the flood in Sindh, Punjab, KP, and Balochistan. The program will include medicines, disease surveillance, which will support pregnant women and children with special attention.
