The Sargodha district administration has ordered schools closed in Punjab’s flood-affected areas of Kot Momin, Sargodha, from August 27 to September 2. Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Muhammad Waseem said the decision was taken for the safety of children and teachers as the flood situation in Punjab worsens.
In Kot Momin, where the flood situation in Punjab has intensified, all educational institutions will remain shut while relief efforts continue. Authorities are closely monitoring conditions and carrying out evacuations from villages along the Chenab River.
District officials like DC Muhammad Waseem and DPO Sohaib Ashraf had been visiting affected Halalpur, Hayatpur and Madh Ranjha areas where relief camps have been established to assist the displaced people.
The Pakistan Army, Rescue 1122, and the district administration are engaged in conducting emergency operations that seek to evacuate families and livestock to safer shelters. Relief camps have been started to serve food, health care and accommodation. Wider safety measures include the announcement of schools closed in Punjab flood-hacked zones.
Earlier, the district administration also declared schools closed in Punjab’s Pasrur as heavy rains and breaches in drainage barriers submerged more than 100 villages. The flood situation in Punjab damaged thousands of acres of crops and disrupted rail and road traffic in the area.
Authorities have restated that the current flood situation in Punjab is being handled as an emergency, although individuals residing in hazardous regions are to observe vigilance. The most important thing is the safety of the students, teachers, and citizens of the impacted districts.
