The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of continuous water pressure in rivers Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej. A major flow is expected to reach Guddu and Sukkur barrages between September 4 and 5, with discharge levels projected between 700,000 and 1.1 million cusecs.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said preparations are underway for a possible super flood in Sindh. He stated that whether the flow reaches 900,000 or 1 million cusecs, the Kacha areas will submerge. The provincial government has identified six sensitive points and is coordinating with the Pakistan Army to protect Guddu barrage and Sukkur barrage.
Sindh Flood Preparedness Plan
- Evacuation of kacha areas is being initiated.
- 948 relief camps are being set up across affected districts.
- Around 192 boats and Pakistan Navy rescue teams have been deployed.
- Continuous monitoring of Qadirpur and Shank embankments is in progress.
- Relief operations are supported by NDMA, PDMA, Pakistan Army, and Pakistan Navy.
Pakistan Flood Update 2025
According to NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, more than 850 people have died and over 1,150 have been injured in floods caused by recent rains and flash floods across Pakistan. Over 600,000 people have been relocated to safe areas, and thousands of livestock have been rescued.
The Pakistan flood update 2025 also highlighted that heavy rains are expected during the first ten days of September in eastern Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and adjoining regions, which may further increase flood pressure in Sindh.
Sindh government and PDMA briefings confirmed that a possible super flood in Indus River may impact:
- 15 districts
- 167 union councils
- 1,651 villages
- Around 1.63 million people (273,148 families)
The Sindh flood emergency cell is operating 24/7 at the Sindh Secretariat to monitor the water situation in rivers. Sindh’s senior ministers, including Sharjeel Inam Memon and Jam Khan Shoro, along with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, have reviewed the situation at Guddu barrage and Sukkur barrage.
