World-renowned Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has passed away at the age of 91. Armani died at his home due to old age, his fashion house confirmed on Wednesday.
Born on July 11, 1934, in a town south of Milan, Armani originally wanted to become a doctor. However, his career shifted towards fashion, where he became one of the leading figures in global design.
According to the official statement, Giorgio Armani’s death cause was linked to age-related complications. Earlier this year, he missed fashion shows in June due to an undisclosed illness. He had been planning to attend Milan Fashion Week to mark the 50th anniversary of his fashion house.
Armani was known for introducing a new style to unstructured clothing and transforming Milan’s ready-to-wear fashion industry. Despite the dominance of luxury groups such as Louis Vuitton and Gucci, Armani remained one of the few designers who fully owned his company.
Forbes reported that at the time of Giorgio Armani’s death, his business empire was valued at more than $10 billion. His ventures included clothing, accessories, perfumes, cosmetics, home furnishings, books, flowers, and chocolates. Armani Giorgio died as one of the 200 richest people in the world.
