A water line burst at the Hub Pumping Station Karachi on Tuesday morning disrupted supply to the city’s West and Central districts, causing a temporary water shortage Karachi residents faced in several localities.
The Water Corporation confirmed that at around 6 a.m. a sudden power issue occurred at the hub pumping station, leading to damage in the Hub Rising Main. This incident overflowed the line and impacted supply to, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, SITE, and surrounds. The disruption increased concerns about the water situation in Karachi.
Water Shortage Karachi and Emergency Repairs
According to the Water Corporation, officers and engineering teams were immediately deployed. On the CEO’s directives, emergency repair work began at the site. After ten hours of continuous repair, the Hub Rising Main was recharged and water supply was restored. The spokesperson added that the repair helped stabilize the water situation in Karachi, which had been affected due to the breakdown.
K-Electric clarified that the line burst at the Hub Pumping Station Karachi had no connection with the reported power breakdown. The company said electricity supply to the facility remained normal and the issue was due to an internal fault at the water station. K-Electric also stated that its teams were in coordination with the Water Corporation.
The Water Corporation confirmed that distribution from the hub pumping station has resumed across affected districts. However, the incident highlighted once again the recurring issue of water shortage Karachi, which continues to impact residents in multiple areas.
