Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah confirmed that the Sindh government, in partnership with the World Bank, will prepare the Karachi Transport Master Plan 2025 to address the city’s transport demand.
The plan will integrate Karachi BRT Yellow Line, metro rail, and the Karachi Circular Railway revival into a coordinated framework for public mobility.
The announcement was made during a meeting at CM House with a World Bank delegation led by Ibrahim Khalil Zaki, along with transport experts Georges Bianco, Frederico Ferreira, Papa Modou, and Magalie. Sindh ministers and officials attended the meeting.
The Karachi Transport Master Plan 2025 will cover BRT corridors, Karachi metro rail project, and KCR revival as part of an integrated system.
Murad Ali Shah stated that Karachi requires at least 15,000 buses to meet passenger demand. He said that BRT corridors must be supported with the Karachi metro rail project and the Karachi Circular Railway revival.
Sindh has also introduced electric buses as part of climate-friendly urban mobility within the Karachi transport system.
World Bank official Zaki assured technical and financial assistance for the Karachi Transport Master Plan 2025. He said the plan will include Karachi BRT Yellow Line, metro rail, tourist trains, goods transport, and the Karachi Circular Railway revival.
The Sindh government has also offered Dhabeji as a dedicated industrial hub for developing transport-related industries linked to the Karachi metro rail project and bus manufacturing.
Karachi BRT Yellow Line Construction Progress
The meeting addressed updates of Karachi BRT Yellow Line, which is a 21-kilometre stretch between Dawood Chowrangi and Khalid Bin Waleed Road. The project includes:
- 21 at-grade stations
- 4 underpasses
- 4 elevated stations
- 8 flyovers
- 3 underground stations
By December 2025, the Karachi BRT Yellow Line should be fully operational and its daily capacity will be 300,000 passengers.
