Mohammad Amir Comeback Rumors: What Did He Say About His Retirement?

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has dismissed reports of a possible return to international cricket, confirming that he has no plans to reverse his retirement.

In a video statement, Amir said the rumours circulating over the past few days about his comeback are “completely baseless.”

“I have been hearing for the last two or three days that Mohammad Amir is making a comeback and taking back his retirement. There is no such thing. I have not spoken to anyone about a return, nor do I have such intentions. My decision is final,” Amir clarified.

Amir acknowledged that while fans want him to play again, Pakistan cricket must focus on the future. He said consistent opportunities for young players are key to building a strong team in the next two to three years.

“We have already played the Asia Cup final, and now I hope we can play and win the World Cup final as well,” he added.

On the selection committee changes, Amir expressed full support for Sarfaraz Ahmed, calling him a strong candidate for the chief selector role.

“If Sarfaraz becomes chief selector or joins the panel, it will be a great decision. He has played with the current players, which can help,” Amir said.

Amir suggested that experienced players like Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, and Sohail Tanvir should be given roles in white-ball cricket, while Younis Khan should be part of the system due to his independent approach.

Amir first retired in December 2020 before making himself available again in early 2024 for the ICC T20 World Cup. On 14 December 2024, he announced his second retirement from international cricket after the tournament, confirming that his decision is final.
