A female student of the University of Karachi (KU), identified as Anika Saeed, lost her life after being hit by a KU point bus near the Mahmood Hussain Library on Friday morning, according to DAWN News.
The incident took place at around 9:15 AM on the University of Karachi campus. Reports indicate that Anika Saeed, a student from the Department of Social Work (Shaoba Samaji Behbood), had just gotten off the point bus at the back gate.
Moments later, the bus began reversing, and the vehicle’s back wheels ran over her. Witnesses confirmed that the accident occurred right in front of the Mahmood Hussain Library.
Anika Saeed taken to a nearby hospital immediately after the incident, as per Dawn News. However, she succumbed to her injuries on the way. The University of Karachi administration and campus security rushed to the site as soon as the news broke.
Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the KU point bus accident. The driver of the university bus is being questioned, and authorities have stated that further legal action will follow based on findings from the initial inquiry.
The student death at KU has again brought up the issue of transport safety on campus and the security of university vehicles. Students have demanded more stringent measures to safeguard buses and well spelt out regulations on how vehicles should move within the University of Karachi compound.
