Basant in Lahore to Be Celebrated Officially Again After 20 Years of Ban

After almost 20 years, the Punjab government has declared the revival of Basant in Lahore 2025 with a few celebrations. The move is the rebirth of the Basant Festival in Pakistan a traditional kite-flying occasion that used to be the greetings of spring.

The consent resolved at a high-level meeting, chaired by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb as per the official documents. Safe Basant Plan defines a two-day festival in February in the old city of Lahore in the Shahi Qila, Mochi gate, Bhati gate and Rang Mahal.

Safety measures to put in place under the Basant Festival in Pakistan 2025. Metallic, nylon, and chemical strings strictly prohibited, and only cotton or starch strings are allowed. All the kites and strings will have barcodes to scan. The plan will also involve security deployment, control of traffic and limited entry of motorbikes to ensure safety.

In 2005, the Punjab banned the Basant Festival following several accidents by dangerous kite strings. The new policy will attempt to restore the tradition in a responsible manner.

Analysts believe that the reintroduction of Basant Festival in Pakistan will not only enhance local tourism and small businesses but also restore the cultural identity of Lahore. The revival of Basant in Lahore 2025 is an attempt at a tradeoff between the heritage and safety of sustainable celebrations.
