IMC to launch Locally Assembled Corolla Cross in Pakistan soon

Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) plans to start local assembly of the Corolla Cross Hybrid soon.

According to a reliable source with knowledge of the situation, the major structural and mechanical developments is now complete. The company is now focusing on the car’s fit and finish.

“We are planning to launch our first-ever locally-assembled HEV SUV – Toyota Corolla Cross by 2023. Continuing the legacy of ‘Make in Pakistan’ philosophy, Toyota has already invested $100 million to produce HEVs in Pakistan.”

He also stated that the auto manufacturer has begun work on the car’s nameplates, badges, and fitments. According to the source, the company is pushing hard and hopes to launch the Corolla Cross early next year.

As per the source, which cited a confidential document, the manufacturers developed the local parts properly. The assembly of the Corolla Cross will start as early as late December.

The CEO of Indus Motor company IMC Mr. Ali Asghar Jamali says that the locally assembled Toyota Corolla Cross will priced between Rs 5 million and Rs 7 million. Due to the country’s current economic situation and the government’s plan to raise car taxes, IMC will reveal its final price next year. Considering the fact that the Corolla Cross is officially sold as a CBU imported product by IMC, with prices ranging from Rs 1.22 crore for the base variant to Rs 1.34 crore for the top-spec variant.

As per Jamali, the implementation of hybrid technology might not only add a new dimension to localization in Pakistan, but would also improve the country in terms of forex savings and a decline in the country’s fuel import bill. He emphasized that bringing Electric Vehicles (EVs) is also a part of the company’s long-term policy, but that Hybrid vehicles are a mid-term solution before EVs because Pakistan lacks the infrastructure to support all-electric vehicles.

Toyota IMC recently stated during its quarterly briefing, according to Topline Securities, that the Corolla Cross will debut in late 2023. However, recent reports indicate that the company may launch its first locally assembled hybrid vehicle in H1 2023. According to car enthusiasts, the car company has accelerated the local assembly of the Corolla Cross following the launch of the Haval H6 HEV in Pakistan.

Since this has claimed the title of ‘Pakistan’s first locally assembled hybrid vehicle, the latter may attempt to claim the title of ‘Pakistan’s most popular locally assembled hybrid vehicle.’
