Eid ul Adha 3 Days Bank Holidays: Banks to Remain Close from 17 to 19 June

In anticipation of the upcoming Eid ul Adha festivities, the State Bank of Pakistan has declared a three-day public holiday for all banks in the country, starting from Monday, June 17th to Wednesday, June 19th, 2024. This announcement, coupled with the usual weekend off on Saturday and Sunday, grants bankers a cumulative four-day break.

A press release from the central bank stated, “The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed from 17th to 19th June 2024 [Monday to Wednesday] being public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.” Consequently, all banks and financial institutions nationwide will observe closure during these dates, with normal operations resuming on Thursday, June 20th, 2024.

This decision aligns with the federal government’s announcement of a three-day country-wide holiday for Eid ul Adha from June 17th to June 19th. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the holiday summary forwarded by the Cabinet Division, ensuring a unified break across Pakistan.

Eid ul Adha, marking the 10th day of Zil Hajj and commemorating the Hajj pilgrimage, will be celebrated on June 17th following the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon on June 7th last week. As preparations intensify, cattle markets have been established in various locations, offering cows, goats, sheep, and camels for sacrificial purposes, reflecting the spirit of generosity and devotion associated with this significant Islamic occasion.
